George C. MacKenzie's 1970
Surplus Property Study Photos
Part of the Rock Island Lighthouse Image Gallery

On 17 March 1969, the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority submitted an application to the U.S. General Services Administration seeking to purchase Rock Island Lighthouse Station, for purposes of establishing an historic monument.
George C. MacKenzie, at the National Park Service's Division of History, Office of Archeology and Historic Preservation, was tasked with describing the station's suitability for disposal.
The ten photographs below were taken during MacKenzie's visit to Rock Island on 12 May 1970, and were included with his final report, submitted to the government on 5 June 1970.
Original captions from the report are provided next to each picture.
